Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank
A comedy podcast to help better understand humanity and also to make fart jokes.

Margo Reiss came over and let me ask her all about transsexuality. I mean, super cool about it. Let me just ask anything I didn't understand and she explained what it was like to me. We got into why to chop it off or not, the bar scene, Katelyn Jenner, how hard we like to fuck, some history, and a bunch more. God, I wish you could talk to people in real life this way. We'd be so much better off as a society.

Eli Sairs came over to talk to me about his OCD. He's got it bad. And it's all wrapped up with Jesus, too, which makes it even harder to deal with. The levels this guy has to go through just to make through basic life stuff is astounding. I bet he eats box really thoroughly, though. Didn't ask him about that. I wish I had.

Zac Amico told me some amazing stories about producing low budget horror movies. Zac is a hilarious comic and podcaster and he's also a producer of films for Troma, one of the greatest pulp horror makers of all time. We talked about the history of this kind of campy, low budget horror. Why they always seem to have ditzy bimbos. Where the ridiculous titles come from. All of it. Plus I did the intro from an abandoned cemetery for maximum effect.

Watch Zac's horror podcast, Zac Amico's Midnight Spookshow,. catch him hosting Catalyst Wrestling or follow him on instagram at @ZacIsNotFunny. I'd tell you to go watch his movie that he made, Shakespeare's Shitstorm, but the last screening happened on Friday so unless it becomes a cult classic, you're gonna have trouble watching it. But I heard it was really good.

You can watch the entire podcast at YouTube.com/AriShaffir if you want to see what monsters Zac and I actually look like.

And please subscribe to my Patreon.com/AriShaffir for bonus content, a way longer introduction to this episode, and really just o support me so I can keep doing the outsider stuff I like doing sometimes without having to worry about the financial impact it'll have on my life every time I lose all my sponsors just because I love crossing the line 3 times a year or so.

Jake Hanrahan talked to me about conflict reporting. He goes to war zones and tries to bring back word of what's actually going on in these areas. It's crazy. He brings back tons of footage. Look at PopularFront.co and you'll see what I'm talking about. He's not even welcome in a lot of these places. Once they put him in a Turkish prison! Really interesting stuff in this one.

You gotta excuse the sound a little. I recorded in the wrong button on my audio recorder so I had to end up using the laptop mic and it's not as good as the regular Sennheiser mic. You'll get used to it but the first 2 minutes you're gonna get annoyed. I'm telling you, this one is worth the trouble. Jake Hanrahan has some crazy stories!

Go support Jake in his quest to bring the truth about wars. Become patron. You can do $1, $5, 0r $10 and no matter what you're going to be helping a real independent guy do his thing. Patreon.com/PopularFront

Joe Deros and Louis Katz met me in a park on the outskirts of Chinatown just to shoot the crap. Derosa and I drank Natty Lights. Katz kept his mask on the whole time. We got stared at by old Chinese people. A black dude named Freedom talked to us for far too long. It was a fun episode in the record-anywhere spirit of the Skeptic Tank. The mailbag part of it is something I do on my patreon. Patreon.com/SkepticTank.

The Skanks table read live Pay Per View is Sunday, October 18 at 8pm Eastern time. You can get tickets here.

The Sunday show at Stress Factory is What's Your F**king Deal. Big Jay hosts it. I'm either doing audience mic or doing the last set. The Friday and Saturday shows are just regular standup headline sets by me. Sunday is the only weird one. Come to both if you want, they'll be completely different. Get tickets here

On my patreon, I do solo versions of mailbag questions from fans, sex/dating advice, arrest stories, and travel tales that I call Plogs. Also, I often put out ahead-of-time releases of podcasts before they go out to the public. Please join up to support me at patreon.com/arishaffir

Dave Smith and I finish the last 4 hours of the craziest year of our state of the union podcasts we've ever done. There was just so much going on. We got into politics, the press, war, the way everybody's turning on each other, and the role of government. Dave was giving me eyes the whole time like he wanted more than just talk, if you get my drift. I

Check out Dave's podcast "Part of the Problem" if you want more political talk.

Dave Smith came over to start our yearly talk on what's going on with America. Dave is a libertarian. So he's one of the more unbiased voices you'll get on politics because he has no political team. I mean, I guess Libertarian is a team, but it's not a team that ever wins so he's unbiased about the main two parties.

This year, a bunch of stuff happened so we ended up having to stop ourselves after 3 hours and we're gonna come back and do a part 2 next week.

Ryan Oneill and Jeff Danis come on to talk about some criminal mastermind shooting 3-5 gunshots at Oneill from about 4 feet away. Unfortunately the guy missed. But something good will come from it. And the good is that D&O, The Danish and O'Neill, The Beach Cops boys are able to come on Skeptic Tank to talk over the harrowing experience. Harrowing for Ryan. Jeff was changing his kid's diaper or something, which I guess is also harrowing. Probably more harrowing when you think about it.

Steve Rannazzisi, Shane Gillis and Corinne Fisher came over to the Skeptic Tank Studio to talk about what it's like going through a mass internet backlash. It has many names, online mobs, cancel culture, outrage, but I like to call it e-rage. We talked about the similarities in all their situations while we detailed each of their experiences in more depth.

I've been trying to get this podcast done for literally years and it did not disappoint. One of the most interesting conversations I've ever hosted on Ari Shaffir's Skeptic Tank

Please subscribe to Patreon.com/AriShaffir to help me survive the next e-rage that hits me so I can go on making the content that interests me without having to worry or edit myself based on the financial implications of that decision. And there are also bonus podcasts each week. So, win-win.

Nick Cody joined me from Melbourne, Australia to tell me about his epic trip he took across America at 19 years old. Went from Portland to NY by train to save like $90. Idiot. But also very cool. Duncan Trussell and I talked about LSD for about 2 hours. Nobody in my life is more of an acidhead than Duncan. He knows the history, the risks, the joys, all of it. We did this in honor of Bicycle Day, which is April 19. The day LSD was first ingested intentionally by Albert Hofmann. Also, the excuse for having this conversation at all was so I could help tell the world about Duncan's new Netflix show, "The Midnight Gospel." It's starts 4/20 on Netflix. All the episodes available at once. He did it with Pendleton Ward, the guy who made Adventure Time. I haven't been this excited for a new show in maybe forever! I'm not even exaggerating. Duncan's mind works on another level and this is so clearly a product of all the weird creativity he's been developing over the last 20 years that I've known him.

For sure set a reminder in your Netflix settings to watch The Midnight Gospel as soon as it comes out! https://www.netflix.com/title/80987903

Mark Normand became the first (and only) guest in the newly built Skeptic Tank Studio! This was recorded March 17, the first day bars and restaurants were closed in New York. We talked about what it was doing to standup, our fears, made jokes about everything, and drank some ice cold Coronas while we did it. This podcast is also the first on the new Skeptic Tank youtube channel. (youtube.com/SkepticTank) Check that out for full episodes, episode clips, brand new podcasts, and lots of new content. And subscribe! That's where all the live episodes will live from now on as opposed to the other YouTube channel that was just a still picture with the audio over it.

Nobody knew how far Covid 19 would go and nobody was yet saying even not to meet up with friends. But in between recording this podcast, and before my interview the next day, it started to seem more like a health risk to have a guest and my producer come to the studio. So we called it off until we learned more. But before we did, Mark and I talked about all that was happening with the Swine AIDS.

I spent half of February looking for a place and half of March building it. We'll be back. Probably. Who knows?

Check out Mark's podcast, Tuesdays with Stories, that he does every Tuesday with Joe List. It's a great podcast and their back catalog should eat up tons of your free time.

This episode was brought to you by Sheath Underwear. If you go to SheathUnderwear.com and use the promo code "Ari" you save 20% off your order! That's a fifth!

Chino LaForge met me before one of our shows to tell me about the history of the country of Hawaii. I think it ain't even really part of America. Honestly. I know it is, but I don't agree. Chino broke down all the history and then we moved on to what it's like there now. Really interested conversation.

Roberty "Bobby" Kelly had me over to the YKWD studios to record an album commentary episode of Skeptic Tank on his first comedy album, Robert Kelly Live. On these episodes I break down a comic's (usually) first album and we discuss all the things that went into making all the jokes, recording the album, how their styles have changed, what inspired the bits, and all sorts of stuff from an academic point of view on comedy.

We did this to help promote Robert's set on season 2 of The Degenerates on Netflix. So make sure to open up Netflix and watch Bobby's set on there.

My final dates for Ari Shaffir: Jew  are:

Oahu - Jan 15

Maui - Jan 17

Kauai - Jan 19

Portland - Jan 23

Pittsburgh - Jan 25

Charlotte - Jan 26

New York - Feb 7 and 8

Tickets are at http://www.arishaffir.com/tour

Adrienne Iapalucci came over to my hotel room in Spokane and we sat and talked about dogs for almost 2 hours. She's been a long time dog freak and so have I. And I just recently got my first dog ever so now I can finally join in the conversation from the point of view of an owner. Adrienne is hilarious and you gotta watch her Netflix set on season 2 of The Degenerates. She's also been opening for me for the last year or two so if you've ever wanted to know who that Dark Queen was that went on before me, now you know.
